1899 canceled; Netflix drops the series after one season

2023 has just started and Netflix is already making hard decisions by dropping various projects. The OTT platform is currently making a roaster for 2023 and while doing so it has announced the verdict on the second season of 1899. It has been reported that Netflix has decided to drop the widely-loved multilingual mystery show after the jaw-dropping cliffhanger of the first season.

The show’s co-creator duo Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar announced this news via their Instagram handle with a post saying, “With a heavy heart we have to tell you that 1899 will not be renewed. We would have loved to finish this incredible journey with a 2nd and 3rd season as we did with Dark. But sometimes things don’t turn out the way you planned. That’s Life.” They continued; “We know this will disappoint millions of fans out there. But we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts that you were a part of this wonderful adventure. We love you. Never forget.”

Talking more about the show, 1899 is an epic science-fiction thriller set at the same time as its title. The show follows the story of the crew and passengers aboard a steamship named Kerberos which embarks on a voyage from Europe to New York. Fans were hoping to see the adventure of the crewmates and their unexpected journey but sadly, it looks like Kerberos won’t be arriving at its final destination now.
