Akshay Kumar’s movies report for 2022!

Akshay Kumar is known for doing multiple movies in a year and 2022 has not been any different for him. The actor has done 5 movies this year with 4 theatrical releases and one OTT release. However, despite doing so many movies, the actor couldn’t give any noteworthy results at the box office this year. The actor is currently going through a slump and is desperately in a need of a hit movie.

Here are all the movies (except the cameo) the actor did in 2022 and how they flopped at the box office;

  1. Bachchhan Paandey

Akshay started 2022 with Farhad Samji’s directorial Bachchhan Paandey. The movie was financed by Sajid Nadiadwala and it featured Kriti Sanon, Jacqueline Fernandez, and Arshad Warsi in lead roles. For those who don’t know, Bachchhan Paandey was the Hindi remake of the 2014 Tamil movie Jigarthanda which was inspired by the 2006 South Korean film A Dirty Carnival.

The movie was released theatrically on 18 March 2022 and as it got many bad reviews it became a flop at the box office.

  1. Samrat Prithiviraj

After the failure of Bachchhan Paanday the actor was seen in the title role of Samrat Prithviraj. The movie was directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi and produced by Yash Raj Films. It featured Manushi Chhillar, Sanjay Dutt, Sonu Sood, Manav Vij, Ashutosh Rana, and Sakshi Tanwar in pivotal roles and it was released on June 3.

Akshay promoted the movie frantically before its release, however, his statements negatively rubbed the people. The movie was even banned from Islamic countries like Oman and Kuwait as it showed Mughals and Muslims in a bad light. Furthermore, as Akshay claimed he finished the movie just 40 days before its release, people questioned his dedication and criticized his lackluster attitude. Many thought Akshay’s portrayal of king Prithiviraj Chauhan was not right and finally, the movie flopped at the box office. Also as the movie clashed with Kamal Haasan starrer Vikram and Adivi Sesh starrer Major, Akshay’s starrer bombed at the box office.

  1. Raksha Bandhan

After Samrat Prithiviraj, Akshay was seen in Aanand L. Rai’s directorial movie Raksha Bandhan. The movie featured Bhumi Pednekar, Sadia Khateeb, Sahejmeen Kaur, Smrithi Srikanth, Abhinay Raj Singh, and Deepika Khanna and it was released theatrically on August 11. The movie clashed with Aamir Khan starrer Laal Singh Chaddha at the box office.

Unlike Samrat Prithiviraj, viewers didn’t find fault with this movie but as it received mixed reviews from critics and audiences the movie did badly at the box office. It did not bomb as badly as Samrat Prithiviraj but it was a commercial failure in the end.

  1. Cuttputlli

Akshay Kumar starrer Cuttputlli was a psychological crime thriller film helmed by Ranjit M. Tewari and financed by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani, and Deepshikha Deshmukh under Pooja Entertainment. The movie featured Rakul Preet Singh, Joshua LeClair, Chandrachur Singh, and Sargun Mehta in important roles, and it was released digitally on Disney+ Hotstar on September 2.

This movie was the Hindi remake of the 2018 Tamil movie Ratsasan which was directed by Ram Kumar. Unlike the original movie, Akshay’s starrer had some key changes that the audience did not like. However, as it got enough views after release it was considered a hit on the OTT platform.

  1. Ram Setu

After Cuttputlli Akshay was seen in Ram Setu which is directed by Abhishek Sharma. The movie featured Jacqueline Fernandez, Nushrratt Bharuccha, and Satya Dev and it was released theatrically on October 25.

The movie clashed with Ajay Devgn and Siddharth Malhotra starrer Thank God and it also received bad reviews from the viewers and critics. Due to the bad word-of-mouth promotion and clash, the movie became a flop at the box office.
