Google recently introduced ‘Search Generative Experience’ which uses AI to offer summarized search results. However, as helpful as this feature seems, it is proving to be equally dangerous. Yes, this new AI feature of the company is sending users to suspicious websites. Recently, a report has come out which claims that Google’s AI-Powered Overview feature is redirecting people to scam websites like malware-packed Chrome extensions, fake iPhone gifts.
According to a recent report by Bleeping Computer, search results containing spammy and malware are appearing in Google search results. After which it is being said that some users may get trapped in these scams. The report also states that suspicious websites used by SGE are showing results with .online domain in the search results.
If you click on one of these links, users are redirected to multiple websites until they land on a scam site. The report claims that most of these redirects are taking users to fake captcha or YouTube lookalike pages.
It has also been said in the report that first such websites take permission to send notifications and later they trap the users by showing fake advertisements. Bleeping Computer says that once the website gets permission to send notifications, scammers target people by sending fake advertisements like fake iPhone gifts.
