Fake iPhone Scam: Every day different types of scam cases are coming to light from all over the world where scammers are duping people in different ways but recently a shocking case has come to light where a person named Jiwei Alan Liao. Along with his two brothers, he stole crores of rupees from Apple, the world’s largest tech company. Yes, you will be surprised to know that the brothers together defrauded the company of about 6 million dollars i.e. more than Rs 50 crore by converting a fake iPhone into a real phone.

This is how they used to do scams

Actually, to carry out this scam, Zhiwei Allen Liao used the warranty system. Now he has been sentenced to 4 years in jail. According to a report by Patiently Apple, first these three ordered genuine looking fake iPhones and iPads from China, after which they used to put the real serial numbers of Apple products on the fake products. Together, the three brothers would then go to the Apple store with a fake iPhone and claim that their device was defective, after which Apple would give them the original device under warranty.

Had done scam earlier also

This is not the first time he has done this kind of scam. In the past also they have earned about 1 million dollars i.e. more than Rs 10 lakh by doing similar scams. According to the information, Liao used to lead this fake operation. Due to fear of being caught, he first sent Apple products and some money to many people but in the end he got caught by the police.

Smuggling of fake Apple products

The report also noted that during the case hearing, a judge emphasized the seriousness of Liao’s actions, saying that he led a criminal organization that smuggled counterfeit Apple products throughout North America for several years.
