Govinda Naam Mera movie review: Vicky Kaushal-Kiara Advani starrer is entertaining but off logic!
Vicky Kaushal, Kiara Advani, and Bhumi Pednekar starrer Govinda Naam Mera released today on Disney+ Hotstar. The movie features Vicky Kaushal as a background dancer named Govinda Waghmare who is married to Gauri (Bhumi). Govinda is dominated by his wife and the only good thing going on in his life is his girlfriend Suku (Kiara). Govinda and Suku dream of becoming a choreographer however things took a drastic turn and everything ends up in chaos as their master plan is being formed.
Well let’s not dive too deep into the story of the movie to avoid spoilers, but overall, Govinda Naam Mera as the name suggests brings back the vibe of Govinda juggling between two wives. Vicky’s character is built in a way that he has no authority in his own house. Kiara’s character is also well-built and is not there for a glamorous angle.
Bhumi’s character, Gauri is a strong woman who dominates everyone she meets. Renuka Shahane as Govinda’s mom is also another interesting character and director Shashank Khaitan has connected these characters in a light-hearted way to make the viewers laugh.
The movie is entertaining, it has many moments and it makes the viewers laugh. Vicky who is taking on a different role than his usual projects does his job well. The songs in the movie are good and overall the venture is quite entertaining. Other than that, the movie brings back the vibe of the old comedy era like Govinda juggling through multiple wives and girlfriends, and Akshay Kumar hatching a dumb illogical and viewers getting conned by him. Well, the twist and turns might feel illogical at times but one can’t say the movie is boring in any way.
What does not work?
As you have seen in every song that has been released, the movie gives more screen time to Vicky and Kiara. Bhumi does a good job in her role but sadly she gets very little screen time.
The unexpected twist and turns just to make the viewers laugh seem stretched at times and illogical but it might just be a matter of preference as the movie is a great way to pass some time.
