Prominent Kannada director SK Bhagavan passed away at 89

Famous Kannada director Srinivasa Krishna Iyengar Bhagavan who goes by SK Bhagavan in the industry passed away at the age of 89 today morning due to age-related ailments in a hospital in Bengaluru. Reportedly the director was admitted to a hospital after suffering from age-related issues on December 2022.

Paying tribute to the late director, the CM of Karnataka, Basavaraj S Bommai took to his Twitter handle to pen a tweet reading, “Renowned director of the Kannada film industry Shri S. K. I was very saddened to hear the news of Bhagavan’s death. I pray for his soul. I pray that God gives strength to his family to bear this pain,” he tweeted along with a photo of the late filmmaker. In a following tweet, he added, “Dorai-Bhagavan duo has given many tasteful films to Kannada cinema. Along with his friend Dorai Raj, he directed 55 films including ‘Kasthuri Niwas’, ‘Eradu Soyam’, ‘Bayalu Dari’, ‘Giri Kanye’, ‘Hosa Lekuk’ starring Rajkumar. Om Shantih.”

For those who don’t the late director well, SK Bhagavan was a native of Bengaluru and he entered the film industry by working as an assistant to Kanagal Prabhakara Shastry in 1956. Later he directed over 55 films in Kannada and most of the said movies starred Rajkumar. In 2017, he was honored with Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Award for his immense contribution to cinema.
