Robert Downey Jr is “no longer being” considered for Marvel’s phase 4
Recently, rumors of Robert Downey Jr returning as an evil version of Iron Man started circulating through the internet. Many were excited upon hearing these rumors but now Marvel Executive Stephen Broussard has confirmed that RDJ is “no longer being [on the] table,” for the upcoming ventures.
“Well, I think one of the meta-narratives of Phase Four was about new characters. It was about new people stepping into mantles. If you look at, like, Cassie [Lang in ‘Quantumania’] getting a suit and Kate Bishop [in ‘Hawkeye’], new characters being introduced, like Jack in Werewolf by Night. After these first 10 years of Marvel storytelling, torches are being passed, like with Robert Downey Jr. no longer being [on the] table and stuff like that. So it was kind of like a new generation stepping to the forefront, which, again, has always happened in the comics,” Broussard said in an interview with io9.
Previously rumors of RDJ reprising his role as Iron Man in Avengers: Secret Wars, Ironheart, and Armor Wars hit the internet. It was also reported that he might make a special appearance in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4. However, refuting such reports, Broussard has confirmed that Downey too like Chris Evans’ Captain America, Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff, and Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye, has passed the torch as Iron Man.
