Selfiee collection Day 1: Another failed attempt at the box office for Akshay Kumar
After having a disastrous run at the box office last year Akshay Kumar had his first release of 2023 yesterday with Selfiee. However, unlike what he had expected from the movie, Selfiee has become another failure of Akshay at the box office.
The early estimates suggested that Selfiee would open with Rs 4 to 5 crore on the first day but the movie failed to reach that sub-standard goal and could only earn Rs 3 crore at the ticket counters on its opening day. According to the industry tracker Sacnik, the movie had a registered overall occupancy of only 9.95%.
For those who don’t know, the last time Akshay Kumar delivered numbers less than Rs 5 crore was back in 2010 with his movie OMG Oh My God! Even that movie performed better than Selfiee and minted Rs 4.25 crore on the first day of its release. Selfiee’s numbers have outshined last week’s flop Kartik Aaryan’s Shehzada in a negative way as even that movie earned around Rs 6 crore on the opening day.
Helmed by Raj Mehta, Selfiee is the Hindi remake of the Malayalam film Driving License and it features Akshay, Emraan Hashmi, Diana Penty, and Nushrratt Bharuccha as the lead cast. The movie also has a cameo from Mrunal Thakur.
