Veteran singer Vani Jairam died at 78

Singer Vani Jairam who recently got honored with the Padma Bhushan passed away on Saturday at the age of 78. The singer passed away at her residence in Nungambakkam in Chennai. The cause of her death is still unknown at the moment.

Vani Jairam is known for recording over 10,000 songs in various languages including Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and Gujarati, among many others in her five decades-long career. She was honored with Padma Bhushan on January 25, and after receiving the honor she was quoted saying, ”I am really grateful for this award. I have been getting so many calls and it is heartening to hear people wishing me. I am thankful to the Government of India for this recognition. On top of that, I extend my gratitude to my fans who have been supporting me all these years by listening to my songs. I am also grateful to the media who have been great support all this while.”
