2022, a year of Bollywood remakes!
South Cinema has been overshadowing Bollywood for quite some time. Furthermore, to avoid disastrous results at the box office, Bollywood has been remaking hit South movies almost every year now. 2022, is also not so different in this regard as this year, Bollywood has made one after another south remake. Here’s a list of remakes Bollywood has made this year,
- Jersey
Jersey
Jersey is a sports drama film featuring Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur in the lead roles. This movie is the remake of the 2019 Telugu movie of the same name which featured Nani in the lead role. Both movies were directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri but sadly the remake couldn’t perform well at the box office.
- Vikram Veda
Vikram Vedha
Vikram Veda is a neo-noir action thriller film that was a remake of a 2017 Tamil film of the same name. The remake featured Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan in the lead roles while the original had Vijay Sethupathi and R Madhavan. Both movies were written-directed by Pushkar–Gayathri.
- HIT: The First Case
HIT: The First Case
HIT: The First Case of Raj Kumar Rao was a crime thriller and the remake of a 2020 Telugu movie of the same name. The original featured Vishwak Sen and Ruhani Sharma and it was directed by Prashanti Tipirneni. The remake however was directed by Sailesh Kolanu.

Cuttputlli
Akshay Kumar and Rakul Preet Singh starrer Cutputlli was a psychological crime thriller and the remake of the 2018 Tamil movie Ratsasan. The original movie was directed by Ram Kumar and it featured Vishnu Vishal, Amala Paul, and Saravanan in the lead. The remake was directed by Ranjit M. Tewari and it got mixed reviews compared to the original by the viewers.
- Drishyam 2
Drishyam 2
Ajay Devgn starrer Drishyam 2 which is releasing on November 18 is the remake of the 2021 Malayalam movie of the same name. The original featured Mohanlal in the lead role and it was directed by Jeethu Joseph. The remake however is directed by Abhishek Pathak.
The first part of the Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam 2 was also a remake of Mohanlal’s movie.
A few honorable mentions- Operation Romeo, Nikamma, Forensic, Tadka, Good Luck Jerry, and Milli, which were released this year are all remakes of popular south movies. Karthik Aaryan’s upcoming movie Shehzada is also the remake of the 2020 Telugu movie Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo and Ajay Devgn’s upcoming movie Bholaa is the remake of the 2019 Tamil movie Kaithi.
