Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Varisu’ getting out of the Pongal race?

The clash of Thalapathy Vijay starrer Varisu and Ajith Kumar starrer Thunivu is a big event that was initially set for Pongal but now it looks like the release date of Vijay’s movie will change. The Telugu producers council recently enforced a strict rule saying the preference for important festivals release will be given only to straight Telugu movies.

As a result of this rule, Varisu which is a Tamil movie is at a disadvantage. Furthermore, as Chiranjeevi starrer ‘Walter Veeraiya’ and NBK starrer ‘Veera Simha Reddy’ are straight Telugu movies releasing in Sankranti 2023, Varisu might not get the Pongal date as the team had wanted.

Telugu producers council’s new rule

Even though Varisu has a Telugu version that will release with a different title ‘Vaarasudu’ due to the strict rules, it can’t get the previously scheduled date. Also, as producer Dil Raju is hoping to release both versions on the same day, the only option Varisu has is to change the release date altogether. For this, the makers are considering the new date, January 26 for the release date but official confirmation regarding this is yet to be made by the team.
